Cytogenetics Technologist

Position Summary:

The Cytogenetics Technologist performs setup, culturing, processing, staining, and karyotyping of specimens in the Cytogentics laboratory.  She/he maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment. The incumbent is also responsible for critically evaluating results and quality control results.  She/he corrects basic procedural and/or instrument problems.  Also responsible for teaching and training.

Education:

Minimum education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited cytogenetics education program OR Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate science field and Cytogenetics or Medical Technologist certification.  Certification: Specialty certification in Cytogenetics by an appropriate laboratory agency within six months of eligibility to sit for the exam is required.
